This year our 7th and 8th grade students will be reading “Shooting Kabul”, “The 5 People You Meet In Heaven”, “A Single Bead”, “One Of The Murphys”, “Running Dream” and “A Long Walk To Water”. Our 8th grade team, led by Paige Shepherd will be attempting to defend their title for the third year in a row. Our 7th grade team, led by Tristen Paul is new this year and is excited about the competition.
The 6th grade team will be reading “7 Riddles to Nowhere”, “Awakening”, “Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pies”, “Esperanza Rising”, “Peppino, Good as Bread” and “Refugee”. The 6th graders, led by Abby Moiser are determined to improve on their 4th place standing from the last two years.
The 5th and 4th grade teams will be reading “AKA Genius”, “Heart of a Shepherd”, “Jake and Lily”, “The Wolf and the Shield: An Adventure with St. Patrick”, “Where the Mountain Meets the Moon” and “Wishtree”. The 5th graders have two teams. Erin Moiser and Patrick Holmes are the team captains. They like the 6th graders are looking on improving this year, as they now know what to expect in the competition. Out 4th grade also has two teams this year. Peyton Rios and Carson Gamino will be the team captains this year. They are in the process of learning about the competition and are determined to earn a medal. The top three teams earn medals in the competition.
The teams meet during their lunch hour once a week going over questions from the individual books. The competition is usually in April. The date and place has yet to be determined.
